Kali x House of Vibe

At a certain point in our history, Kali Audio was in an interesting position: if you weren’t up on all the newest trends in Pro Audio, you might not have heard of Kali’s studio monitors, but you’d almost certainly heard something that was mixed on Kali’s studio monitors.

One of Kali’s users who’s work has been most publicly visible is Anthony “Brew” Brewster, founder and Music Director of Venice Beach’s House of Vibe All-Stars. His work with Ant Clemons earned a GRAMMY nomination, “Justice 2020”, which he produced for Dumstaphunk, Trombone Shorty, and Chali 2na was named one of the 20 most influential songs of 2020, he’s worked on several episodes of “Sesame Street,” and he is responsible for much of the music and sound on ESPN’s Espy awards.

All of this work happens at House of Vibe Studios, located in the heart of Venice Beach, California. A pair of Kali LP-6s are the workhorse in the control room. Brew was one of the first people to hear Kali’s monitors and give feedback, and he’s been working on LP-6s since before they were available to the public.

When asked about what he likes about the monitors, the first thing Brew mentions is the price: “It’s affordable for the musician who’s just starting out, and the musician in the middle, and it’s perfect for the pros because the things just sound dope. I know that when I’m mixing on LP-8s, whoever is listening is hearing the music the way I mean for them to hear it.”

Brew has become one of Kali’s most trusted partners, and his feedback has been instrumental in developing new products. Kali’s Director of Marketing, who runs the beta test program, says: “Brew works with so many different artists across so many different formats. He’s working on film and television and music in the studio, but he’s also out in the world playing on stage. It’s a lifeline to have someone like him giving us feedback on what we’re making, because we know that he’s not just thinking about himself at the professional level, but also all of the artists and clients who he supports, and what they need.”

After testing a pair of our new 2nd Wave LP-8s, Brew says: “They are fire. They give me more bottom, but it seems like you guys cleaned up the middle and high end also. These are really clear compared to my LP-6s. Nice broad soundstage. I can’t wait to get working on these.”

The 2nd Wave LP-6s and LP-8s are out this month. But it’s likely you’ve already heard work done on them, and there’s a good chance that what you heard was one of Brew’s mixes.
